Amuneke now Chief Coach of Super Eagles, Eguavoen as Interim Technical Adviser – NFF

Former Coach of Tanzania, Emmanuel Amuneke, has been appointed the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced yesterday.

The federation also announced that Augustine Eguavoen, who led the team to the African Nations Cup (AFCON), is retained and would continue as the teams’ Technical Director/Technical Adviser (Interim).

According to the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, “The NFF Board has approved a recommendation of the Technical and Development Committee retaining Augustine Eguavoen as Technical Director/Technical Adviser (Interim) while Emmanuel Amuneke becomes the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles.

Salisu Yusuf will be the 2nd Assistant Coach/Chief Coach of the CHAN team and Joseph Yobo will be 3rd Assistant, while Aloysius Agu remains the goalkeepers’ trainer”.

The NFF initially said it has appointed Portuguese coach, Jose Peseiro to replace Gernot Rohr.

Eguavoen led the team to the just concluded AFCON 2021 in Cameroon where the Nigerian senior national team emerged as the best team in the group stage, winning all its three matches before crashing out of the Round of 16 to Tunisia.

Nigeria’s next assignment is the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff against Ghana billed for March.
